The Past Came A Calling
“Will she remember me? Will she notice how I have changed? A different man, ready to be more than a friend,” I said to myself as I walked to the park were we had agreed to meet up.
And just like a vision, she was seated at one of the benches. Leaned back with a novel of some sort, deeply engrossed in her reading. She had really not changed much; she was still the same hot but nerdy girl she was in high school. I sneaked up behind her and covered her eyes with both my hands.
“Guess who?” I asked.
“Timothy Jordan, as I live and breathe. You still kidding around?” she said humorously.
I took my hands from her eyes as she placed her book in her handbag and stood up to greet me. I walk around the bench and took more than a handshake. I gave her a well-deserved and quite admittedly long awaited hug.
I sat beside her on the bench and looked longingly at her. She did the same but after what felt like an eternity she broke the look and said as she stared at my feet, “It has been over 10 years since we left high school, what has been happening in your life?”
“I run a travel agency downtown. But you know all these from our long chats online. What you should be asking is what is happening with us now. I have anticipated our meeting and reconnection for a while now.” I threw the grenade into the conversation.
“I don’t know, I also have been very anxious about us meeting up and reconnecting,” she responded.
And our meet up started off like that. She was reminiscent of past memories, while I wanted to spark up a new romantic adventure. It was as though I tried to pull her to me, and she pulled back.
“I didn’t have any sort of game plane when I decided to set this up,” she said.
I laughed and moved close to her and said without a shadow of a doubt, “You know what this was, you know where our online relationship was leading to…”
“An offline trick, really. I didn’t get that,” she interrupted.
“OK, then what do you make of this,” I said as I kissed her.
She pulled away and jolted up. She looked at me and then leaned back and kissed me back. The first kiss was forced, stolen for lack of a better word. But this one, was more enchanting, full of sparks that erupted into fireworks. She sat back with her lips on mine and we kissed for what seemed forever.
We finally stopped and I stood up, gestured her to take my hand. She took my hand, took her handbag and we walked hand in hand together.
